Project Director

Job Description

Cain & Company’s Project Director owns the day-to-day flow of client projects, keeping timelines, teams, communication, and deliverables moving smoothly from kickoff to finish. You’ll also build strong client relationships, get to know their business, and work closely with our Strategic Development Director to spot growth opportunities where Cain & Company can bring even more value to the table.

Core Responsibilities

  • Keep client projects moving from kickoff to completion, delegating work within 24 hours and making sure brand and process standards stay consistent along the way.
  • Coordinate with the Strategic Development Director, Creative Director and Project Manager to keep a pulse on every active project, publishing weekly status reports and keeping all projects on schedule.
  • Build client relationships, learn their businesses inside and out, and look for opportunities where Cain & Company can help them do more.
  • Bring proactive ideas to each major account every quarter – because great client service means thinking ahead, not just taking orders.
  • Think beyond current projects by having big-picture strategy conversations with each key account annually, timed around their planning cycle.
  • Work closely with the Creative Director to balance creative schedules with client timelines and participate in project reviews as needed.
  • Keep an eye on team capacity with monthly reviews with the Strategic Development Director, catching potential overload before it becomes a problem.
  • Bring in trusted freelance support when extra hands are needed, balancing speed, quality, and the right fit for our team.
  • Make the way we work better by implementing workflow improvements and helping drive complete project management software adoption.
  • Build and maintain a client knowledge system that makes important information easy to find and use, starting with an audit in the first 90 days and continuing with quarterly reviews once established.
  • Regularly meet with the Project Manager, proofreaders, and copywriters to talk workload, progress, roadblocks, and professional development.
  • Help your team grow by setting documented development goals for each team member and checking on progress, collaboration, and team dynamics.
  • Keep time tracking accurate and up to date by logging 100% of daily work by end of day, while working toward a 50–60% billable target.
  • Serve on Cain & Company’s leadership team, contributing to agency-wide decisions, planning, and culture building.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of marketing experience, with at least five years of management experience.
  • Hands-on experience managing marketing projects from start to finish.

You would be successful in this role if…

  • You’re naturally organized and love turning chaos into structure, juggling deadlines, client needs, and shifting priorities without dropping the ball.
  • You’re able to anticipate what’s next, create forward momentum, and put plans in place before the need becomes urgent.
  • You’re a curious problem-solver who figures things out quickly and knows when to dig in or ask questions.
  • You are comfortable working solo, but you collaborate well with others and know how to lead individual and team conversations in a way that’s constructive and professional.
  • You’re confident in front of clients and know how to keep conversations clear, professional, and focused on forward momentum.
